Project is on course
The new Hamilton Campus was outlined to Hamilton parliamentarians Christina Mckelvie MSP, Angela Crawley MP and Margaret Ferrier MP.
They met the deputy principle of UWS, Professor Paul Martin, to receive a briefing on the site.
Located in Hamilton International Technology Park, it is expected to generate up to £443 million to the local economy over the next 25 years, with plans to develop the campus into one of the most environmentally-friendly facilities in Scotland.
Professor Martin said the project is progressing on schedule and is expected to open its doors to students by 2018.
In a joint statement the Hamilton parliamentarians said: “We all fought to keep the UWS campus within Hamilton.
“We are therefore delighted that the university has not only stayed within our town but redeveloped the campus to one of the most modern throughout Scotland.
“This includes the pledge to be one of the most carbon-neutral, energy efficient eco-campuses in the world.
“The campus has the potential to make Hamilton one of the leading university towns in the country, bringing an estimated £400 million boost to our local economy.
“The plans are incredibly exciting and we are happy to support the project to ensure a bright future for the UWS campus in Hamilton.”
