Changing times at the food co-op

- Kirsten Mcstay

The Hillhouse Community Food Coop have changed their opening day and time – to a Thursday between 10am-4pm.

Community Links (South Lanarkshire) set up the group in 2014 and it is operate by volunteers.

The project was originally funded by Big Lottery Fund’s ‘Support and Connect’.

Located in Hillhouse and Earnock Community Centre, the food co-op provides a variety of fresh and affordable fruit and vegetables, as well as other items such as eggs and potatoes.

Food co-ops are all about giving people access to affordable fruit, vegetables and goods, but also about assisting communities and helping money go further.

In addition to the co-op, the Hillhouse Community Café also takes place on Thursdays between 1pm and 4pm.

At the café, you will be able to pick up toasties, sandwiches and hot or cold rolls – all for under £1.

All profits go straight back into supporting the running costs of the café.

Community Links would also be more than happy to speak with anyone who is interested in volunteering opportunities.

To find out more about how you can get involved in your community or for information about volunteering opportunities at the Hillhouse Hub, call (01698) 827583.

More information can also be found on the Community Links Facebook Page at www.facebook.com/Communitylinkssl.
