Holly braves the chop for charity

Pupil has 12 inches of hair cut off

- Stefanie Mccourt

Brave St John Ogilvie High pupil Holly Butler faced the chop in front of classmates in aid of the Little Princess Trust.

Holly (14) decided to have her hair cut for donating to the charity, which provides real hair wigs for children suffering hair loss.

And not only did the Burnbank teen have around 12 inches of her hair cut off at school on Monday, January 23, she also raised £942 for the Trust.

Proud mum Michelle Mcdonald said: “Holly just came home one night and said, ‘mum I would really like to do this for the Little Princess Trust’.

“She said ‘it’s only hair and it will grow back, these children don’t have that’. It was very humbling for 14-year-old.

“Our usual hairdressers is DM Hair in Blantyre, and when they heard that Holly was wanting to do this, they said they would cut her hair and then style it for free, which was really good of them.

“The school has been fantastic as well and had buckets out for collections. A big thank you to everyone a who donated.”

The Little Princess Trust requires donations of hair with a minimum length of seven inches. Donations are then sent to a manufacturer in China to be turned into wigs suitable for girls and boys who have experienced hair loss. It can take five to seven donations of hair to complete a single wig.
