Life in fast lane brings its rewards Larkhall and Avondale prizes

- Shirley Bartynek

Members of Larkhall Avondale Amateur Swimming Club made a splash at the weekend when they scooped a number of top awards at their annual presentation.

The awards night – held on Saturday at Larkhall Leisure Centre – saw more than 60 of the club’s members, who hail from all over Lanarkshire, honoured for their achievements.

It is the highlight of the club’s year and allows the swimmers to compete against their team mates to try to win their age groups and improve personal best times.

A number of special awards are also given out and every swimmer who competes receives a trophy.

The event also marks the club’s biggest fundraiser of the year and all cash goes towards trips or equipment for the children.

Derek Murray, president of the club, said: “Larkhall Avondale is a fantastic amateur swimming club based in Larkhall.

“Run by a hard-working group of coaches and committee members, the club continues to produce outstanding results. This is their more than a swimming club as it is very family-orientated and has excellent social network where parents and swimmers get involved in lots of activities outside swimming. We are always looking for new members to join our club.

“We are currently looking for new members and the club would urge anyone interested in joining to please get in touch.”

The squads train at various times in Larkhall Leisure Centre on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays.

Anyone who is interested can contact development officer Moira Mooney at moira. swimlarkhall@gmail.com.
