World record slosh at ’Craig
Over 500 people became record breakers at the weekend – by taking part in the world’s biggest ever Sloshathon at Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility.
North Lanarkshire Council organised the event in aid of the Westfield Health British Transplant Games which will be held later this year across North Lanarkshire.
Organisers say 547 enjoyed doing the slosh at the same time as radio DJ Steve Mckenna played the music. The crowd danced together for five minutes.
They needed over 500 people to set the new world record.
Ravenscraig manager Graeme Morrison said: “We had already broken two world records here at Ravenscraig for the largest zumba and power hoop classes so we’re delighted to make it three-in-a-row.
“I’m sure most people – young and old – have done the slosh at a wedding or party so it’s a world record attempt that everyone could join in.”
North Lanarkshire is hosting the Westfield Health British Transplant Games over four days from July 27 to 30, when people who have had an organ transplant and donor families take part in a host of sporting and social activities.
The Games aim to demonstrate the benefits of transplantation, encouraging transplant patients to regain fitness, while increasing public awareness of the need for more people to sign on the NHS Organ Donation Register.
Councillor Jean Jones, Deputy Provost of North Lanarkshire, took part in the sloshathon.
She said: “A huge congratulations to everyone who came along and set this new record. There was a great atmosphere but it’s important to remember it’s also about encouraging people to sign up for the organ donation register.”
