Calder clean-up plan
Blantyre-based Friends of the Calder welcomed 29 people to their AGM on, January 17.
The group aims to improve the Milheugh and Greenhall estates and encourage their communities to become more involved in the countryside.
Those in attendance showed great enthusiasm and enjoyed having a look back over the activities that had taken place in 2016. It was clear to see that they had made a difference at the Calder, especially at Barnhill, with the creation of the new pond.
The group heard updates from the South Lanarkshire Council Countryside and Greenspace team and the Central Scotland Green Network Trust about funding for the improvement works. They also enjoyed hearing from Wendy Mcinally, manager of Regenfx youth trust.
A Friends of the Calder spokesperson said: “we are keen to get young people involved in the group so Wendy attending was the start of the conversation about how we could do this, with the support of Regenfx. Exciting times ahead.”
A spring clean has been organised by the South Lanarkshire Council countryside rangers April 30. The group will meet at Greenhall Park at 10am and make their way down to Millheugh, where they will finish at noon.
