Vics ship four in cup exit

Linlithgow ........ 4 Blantyre Vics .... 0

Blantyre Vics’scottish Cup hopes crashed on Saturday as they went down 4-0 at East Premier aces Linlithgow Rose.

Manager John Gibson said:“i think the 4-0 scoreline flattered them.

“We were well in the game, defended well for long spells. Our tactics seemed to be working well and we created a few reasonable chances.

“We went in 0-0 at half-time, then 15 minutes into the second half they scored with a header, then five minutes later they scored a second.

“After that we began to look deflated as the heads went down.

“They scored their third from a soft free-kick, which I doubt was a free-kick, then hit a late fourth.”

Gibson added:“all credit to the boys who held out for about an hour, but they just didn’t get a break.

“Now it’s back to battling for league points, as we face a home game against fourth-top Girvan.”

Vics currently sit third-bottom of the Super First Division, one point behind Shotts, who have two games in hand, and three behind Cumbernauld United, who have played two more games.

Shotts, who had a blank weekend, face an away game at Shettleston, who are currently in second place.

Formerthorniewood manager John Fallon will make his debut as Shettleston boss.
