Central Second Division round-up

Lanark United maintained third place in the Central Second Division after a 0-0 draw against second-top Port Glasgow at Moor Park.

United’s Ronan Kearney produced the first effort in 12 minutes but his shot went wide, then in 28 minutes midfielder Kieran Mcgurk was forced off with a leg injury.

Ten minutes into the second half United were unlucky when an Alan Christie shot was cleared off the line, and two minutes later Gareth Hallford produced a double block save after a quick break by Martin Paton.

On the hour mark, Shaun Gallagher had a well-hit shot blocked in a crowded area, and as Lanark pushed forward strongly in the closing stages Port keeper Craig Beaton saved well from David O’connell.

Manager John Brogan said:“it was a really good performance in a very even game where both sides had several chances and made some good saves.”

United are now away to Vale of Leven in a third-v-fourth clash, with both on 19 points from 13 games, but Lanark having a better goal-difference.

Tail-enders Newmains United, who are still searching for their first league win of the season, lost 1-0 at Ashfield and now face Dunipace at home.

Royal Albert had a blank weekend and now play Glasgow Perthshire at Tilework Park.
