Biggar move up to seventh

-

Biggar ........................... 55 Hillhead/jordanhill ........ 7

Biggar’s first win in seven against basement battlers Hillhead/jordanhill moved them up two places to seventh in the BT National League 2 table.

The county side will still have been frustrated, however, as dropped passes and, at times, good defending by the Glasgow side prevented the scoreline from being even more emphatic.

There were also several instances of ‘white line fever’ when players went for a try rather than looking for an unmarked team-mate who was in a better position.

Having secured the four-try bonus point in the first half, Biggar allowed Hill-jills back into the game just before half-time when James Lowry scored under the posts and Rory Harte kicked the conversion.

Biggar continued in their free-scoring form after the break, notching another five tries to secure their 55-point total.

There were several highlights on the day, with great carries from Jamie Orr, Andrew Orr, Ewan Stewart and Ross Jackson, the latter of whom ran home from some 60m out after the ball was plundered from a Hill-jills attack.

That effort and other contributions earned Jackson Biggar’s man of the match, while Aird Jardine showed some deft touches with the boot and Robbie Lavery made some telling bursts, one of which led to a try for himself and a later effort saw an offload carried over by Alisdair Sinclair for a try.

Biggar’s points were scored by tries from Ewan Sanderson (2), Alisdair Sinclair (2), Andrew Dunlop, Ross Jackson, David Paterson, Robbie Lavery and Aird Jardine, the latter of whom also slotted five conversions.

With six games left, four of which are against teams below them, Biggar look certain to finish in a mid-table position.
