Mcghee: That’sa soreone totake

Rangers ....... 2 Motherwell .. 1

Graham Barnstaple Motherwell boss Mark Mcghee said Saturday’s defeat against Rangers at Ibrox was a low point in his 26-year managerial career.

A late Kenny Miller double cancelled out Louis Moult’s opener and denied the Lanarkshire side a first win over Rangers in the Scottish Cup since 1961.

Motherwell soaked up a lot of pressure from Rangers before Chris Cadden’s cross was bulleted into the net by the head of Moult in 74 minutes.

However, 10 minutes later Miller headed in a Martyn Waghorn cross and with two minutes left, Stephen Mcmanus’s wayward pass was intercepted by Emerson Hyndman and he sent Miller through to drill low past Craig Samson.

Just before that, Rangers keeper Wes Foderingham had kept his side in the game with a terrific double save from Carl Mchugh and Scott Mcdonald.

Mcghee said: “I am stuck for words. I’ve only ever felt as bad as this twice in my 900-odd games as a manager.

“Once at Millwall when we lost in the play-offs and the other time at Wolves when we lost to Crystal Palace in the play-offs are the only two games that match how I’m feeling right now.

“Nobody has said anything after the game, nobody has anything to say.

“I’ve said to the players what I’ve just said to you, they were the only words that were spoken.

“I couldn’t speak for half an hour, I had nothing to say. I’m totally speechless, to be honest.

“I didn’t think the game was won with 10 minutes to go but I felt the game plan had worked and the manner in which we lost is the thing.

“The second goal is ludicrous, it is hard to bear.”
