Bookworms at Chapelton Primary School will receive a funding boost in honour of legendary author Roald Dahl.

Stewart Milne Homes has selected Chapelton Primary School to receive a share of a £1500 literacy fund set up to celebrate the 100th birthday of the famed children’s author.

Chapelton Primary was one of six schools to benefit as the housing developers aim to celebrate the importance of reading – and enable the provision of new books for young readers to enjoy.

Mairi Mitchell, head teacher at Chapelton Primary, said: “Reading skills are such an integral part of a child’s development and we regularly encourage our pupils to read as much as possible through providing them with high quality resources and learning experiences.

“We’ve been looking to set up a lending library and the kind donation from Stewart Milne Homes will help us stock up on all their favourite books, further supporting the resources available in the school.”

Sharon Wilson, sales consultant at Stewart Milne Homes for Colinhill Grange, added: “The pupils at Chapelton Primary have selected some wonderful books as part of our poll and it’s fantastic to see so many children getting involved and sharing their love of reading.

“It is great to be able to support communities local to our developments and we hope the children enjoyed taking part in the competition.
