A woman has been left battered and bruised following an alleged attack in her Viewpark home at the weekend.

Theresa Campbell’s face was cut and swollen after an incident at her Mulberry Crescent home in the early hours of Saturday, March 18.

Her daughter Stacey Clements, who lives in Australia, said on social media this week that her mother was a “kind and gentle person who would not hurt anyone”.

And an online appeal is trying to raise £1500 so that the family can be reunited Down Under.

Ms Campbell (46), said: “My face is very sore – and my face arms, legs and ribs are bruised.

“Nothing was broken, but I’m still shaken and traumatised.

“It’s wonderful that someone has set up the Justgiving page. “I’m very thankful.” Photographs of Miss Campbell’s injuries were also put up online.

Ms Clements said: “My mother would never hurt a fly. She was black and blue. “She has a very sore face. “The past few days have been hell for me my family and of course my poor mum.

“I would like to thank everyone in Viewpark who has been there in my mum’s house day and night with her – and all my family for helping my mum when I can’t be there to be with her. The support is so overwhelming and goes to show how much people love and respect her.

“I will be bringing her over to Australia for a while to get her away from it all and give her a break she deserves it! Again, thank you all so much from the bottom of my heart.”

An Uddingston cafe owner has set up a Justgiving page to raise money for Miss Campbell following the incident.

So far, almost £800 of the £1500 target has been raised.

Gail Gillon, of Jolly Tots and Cookies, said: “Please help to bring a bit of comfort to this poor soul. Dig deep to show her that there are good people who are hurting for her.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 20-year-old man was arrested and detained in police custody in connection with an alleged assault on a 46-yearold woman in the early hours of Saturday, March 18, in Mulberry Road, Viewpark.”

Charles Cairns appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday on a charge of assault to injury and robbery.

He made no plea or declaration and continued for further examination. He was remanded in custody.

Police are thought to be looking for a second male in connection with the attack.
