Thomas Cook store closes
Thomas Cook will close its Strathaven branch this month in what is described as a “significant blow” for the town.
A spokesperson for the company said no figure is available on staff set to be affected at the Common Green store and there will be redeployment opportunities.
East Kilbride and Strathaven MP Lisa Cameron said she is disappointed to lose the shop, which has been in the town for more than a decade.
“I am concerned at the loss of an important local amenity to the town of Strathaven when the Thomas Cook travel office will close,” she said.
“It offered a valuable personal service to many people who do not have online access or those who prefer not to purchase holidays online.”
A Thomas Cook spokesperson said there are several other branches in the area, including East Kilbride, Hamilton and Silverburn, adding: “Our Strathaven store is set to close as part of the work we’re doing to make sure we have the right shops in the right places for our customers.”
