Hillhouse hub gets new name
Residents of Hillhouse recently took part in a competition to help pick a new name for a community café and food co-op.
The cafe and co-op operate every Thursday at the Hillhouse and Earnock Community Centre and is run by volunteers supported by Community Links (South Lanarkshire).
These community features are part of the popular Hillhouse Hub which is becoming increasingly recognised as an asset for the community of Hillhouse and beyond.
Volunteer Donna Steven and schoolboy Darren Williams, were chosen at random as the winning entries following a brief consultation competition with people who use the service at the hub.
The Red Burn Farm in Hamilton, who continue to help support initiatives and activities in the Hillhouse area, kindly donated the gift voucher prizes and the community would like to say a huge thanks to them.
Darren, who is 10-years-old, celebrated his big win by treating his gran to a lovely dinner at the carvery restaurant.
The newly named Hillstop Café is open every Thursday from noon until 4pm, with ‘Fruits and Shoots’ food co-op open from 10am until 4pm every Thursday. Everyone will be made very welcome.
Come along, meet new people, get access to fresh, affordable and good quality fruit and vegetables, enjoy a cup of tea and a snack and find out about how you could get more involved in your local area.
Also available at Hillhouse Hub is the successful SELECT project. Friendly and helpful volunteers can help you create CVS, apply for job opportunities and access a number of online services. The SELECT drop-in hub runs every Tuesday and Thursday between 10am and 4pm.
