Hollywood actor goes back to town school
Kids meet Capaldi
An award-winning film and television actor and producer headed back to his old school last week.
Gianni Capaldi jetted back into Scotland to meet with students from Hamilton College.
He was born in Motherwell and brought up in Hamilton, but is now pursuing a film career in Los Angeles.
Gianni has acted alongside Morgan Freeman, Mickey Rooney, Vinnie Jones and Lindsay Lohan.
Students at the school, who are interested in film and acting and production as a career choice, were given the opportunity to speak with him and ask questions about his career in Hollywood.
They were also given the chance to learn about what it takes to make a blockbuster film.
Pupils also watched film clips showing the range of parts the actor has played.
Principal Tom Mcphail said of the visit: “I was delighted to spend time with Gianni talking about the school and his time with us as a pupil, as it gives me a different perspective on the school.
“We actively encourage our former pupils to stay part of the Hamilton College community, long after they have left school. When they return to school, they add a different, inspirational, dimension to school life for our current pupils by speaking about the many different paths they have taken in their life after Hamilton College and real life experiences.”
Capaldi also spent time with some of the staff who were formative figures in his own development as an actor.
The actor was recently awarded Best Actor at Chicago’s Indiefest Film Awards for his role in Mickey Rooney’s film Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.
He was back home for a short visit before resuming filming on the Arizona set of his latest film Rottentail, a comic book adaptation for the big screen.
