Science trip for deaf pupils
As part of Sign Language Week, a group of deaf children from Calderside Academy in Blantyre enjoyed a trip to Glasgow Science Centre.
The S1-S6 pupils got hands-on learning about energy in the Powering the Future exhibition, watched a British Sign Language (BSL) live science show and visited the fulldome digital planetarium.
As part of their visit, they also worked with Glasgow Science Centre, who are developing an accessibility app that would allow visitors to access BSL videos, explaining the science behind the exhibition.
The group then took a trip to the ISS and Saturn in a fully BSL interpreted planetarium show and a live science show which explained Newton’s Laws using a bed of nails, balloons, rockets and more.
Sally Pritchard, community learning coordinator at the centre, said:“we are working hard to make Glasgow Science Centre more accessible to everyone so that our visitors can experience all we have to offer, regardless of any impairment.”
