Let me enlighten you on benefits
Dear Editor,
Neil Henderson’s use of the word ‘enlightened‘ in last week’s letters page depends, of course, on your viewpoint and political stance.
If you are a natonalist/corbyn-type leftie, then clearly you blame the UK government for everything and think‘i, Daniel Blake’is an accurate all round view of the benefits system. It strikes me that if this system was so bad, then why do so many people seek to come to the UK? It is a well accepted fact that our benefits system is one of the most generous in the world.
An independent Scotland would have a massive deficit from day one, approximately 9% of GDP, higher than that of Greece, with no details from the SNP on how this deficit would be tackled. The UK deficit is currently about 4%. The SNP’S determination to remain in the EU would also necessitate joining the discredited euro, a further potential economic disaster.
Unlike Mr Henderson, I and my ilk are economically enlightened and realise that an independent Scotland would be an economic basket case.
