Revue to showcase town’s new talent

- Kirsty Feerick

Hamilton Operatic and Dramatic Club are calling for new members to be in the spotlight at their next musical showcase.

They are hoping to attract around 15 people who have a passion for singing, dancing and acting.

Recent successes have included productions of ‘Sister Act’ and ‘Me & My Girl’ in Hamilton Town House and Motherwell Civic Theatre.

And they need new cast members to take part in a revue they are staging in November.

Secretary Ann Gardener said: “It may be a bit daunting at first but once you get to know us we are a friendly bunch.

“New members would be looked after until they found their feet, as it were. No one is a stranger for long.

“The social aspect of the club is paramount. We are like an extended family. We run various social events throughout the year as well.

“If anyoone enjoys singing and acting they will have a great time with us.

“The reason we are doing a revue this November is so we can showcase everyone’s talents. It is a few years since we have put on a revue so we are really looking forward to it.

“I think people would find us very welcoming. They would have to do a short singing audition of their choice but it is all done in a friendly atmosphere to make them feel at ease.”

The groups make a donation to charity each year and last year they were able to present a cheque for £1000 to Marie Curie Nurses.

This year the charities are Alzheimer Scotland and Guide Dogs for the Blind. New cast members aged over 16 are needed for the revue called ‘Hamilton ODC Presents A Musical Showcase’. There are also some opportunities for children aged 9-12. Anyone who wanst to join can contact recruitment.hodc@ hotmail.com.

The revue will be at Motherwell Concert Hall between November 1418.

Before that the theatre group are in final preparations for a concert called ‘Legends of Music and Musicals’ in Hamilton Town House between May 3-5.

Tickets are £10 and are available by calling 01698 264315 or from cast members. The show includes music from, among others, the Carole King musical ‘Beautiful’ and ‘Jersey Boys’.
