House attack and fire probe

- Staff reporter

Bricks were thrown through the windows of an Uddingston house last Friday, April 21, before three vehicles parked there were damaged with one of them set ablaze.

The householder at the New Edinburgh Road address was also attacked after he challenged a group of men there.

At around 11pm the assailants, who police understand entered the area in a white Ford Transit van, are alleged to have gone to the property.

Bricks are reported to have been thrown through the windows of the home and three vehicles were damaged outside the property. One of the damaged cars is alleged to have been deliberately set ablaze.

The 39-year-old man who resides there opened his door to challenge the men. The men forced their way inside and the resident was left seriously injured as a result of the alleged attack.

He was taken by ambulance to Monklands Hospital to receive treatment for serious injuries. Medical staff described his condition as“stable”.

It has yet to be determined how many men were involved, or in what direction the suspects left following the incident.

Detective constable Christopher Norton of Wishaw CID, who is leading the enquiry, said:“this was a brazen and targeted attack which has resulted in one man being taken to hospital. No one else was injured, however, local residents were left shocked by the nature of this violent incident.

“Windows were damaged, a car was set ablaze and the victim was left seriously injured as a result of the attack. It is imperative that we trace the men responsible.

“We have been assessing available CCTV and speaking to local residents. We understand that the men may have entered the area in a white Ford Transit van. Local residents and passing motorists will have witnessed or heard this disturbance. I would ask anyone with information to contact detectives atwishaw.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Wishaw CID on 101. Alternatively calls can be made to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given in complete confidence.
