Youth denies making sectarian remarks

- Court reporter

A Hamilton teenager has denied making offensive and sectarian remarks while being taken to the town’s police station by officers.

Graeme Alexander Haig, of Deveron Crescent, is alleged to have shouted, swore and made offensive and sectarian remarks, and to have refused to stop when asked to do so, at Keith Street in the town on Tuesday, April 25, and en route to Campbell Street police station and in the police station itself.

The 19-year-old denied a charge of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner aggravated by religious prejudice when he appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court later that day.

Sheriff Andrew Mcintyre set Haig’s trial for August 22 with an intermediate diet of July 27. Bail was granted meantime.
