Thug getsnine months’ jailtime
A Hamilton thug was this week jailed for four months and ordered to return to prison to serve part of an outstanding jail term following a weekend disturbance in Hillhouse.
Declan Orpin, of Fereneze Crescent, had challenged police officers to fight at a neighbouring Fereneze Crescent address last Sunday, April 23.
The 23-year-old had also been carrying a weapon, a wooden table leg there.
He had admitted charges of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner and having an offensive weapon when he appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court from custody on Monday.
Orpin had pleaded not guilty to a charge of hindering three police officers at the Fereneze Crescent address by struggling violently with them. This was accepted by the Crown.
Sheriff Thomas Millar sentenced Orpin to four months each on the charges of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner and having an offensive weapon. These terms were to run concurrently.
Sheriff Millar also ordered that Orpin be returned to prison to serve five months of a term imposed in October last year on charges which included assault and threatening and abusive behaviour.
This term was to be served before the fourmonth jail term.
