Lunch with the Lisbon Lions

Win tickets for the charity event

- Shirley Bartynek

Celtic legend Harry Hood is opening the doors to his hotel in a bid to raise cash for charity.

Harry, of Bothwell, has organised a Lisbon Lions Lunch at Motherwell’s Dalziel Park Hotel on Sunday, May 7.

And guests will hear from Lions Jim Craig, John Clark, John Fallon, Bertie Auld and Bobby Lennox.

There will also be a question and answer session and the opportunity for people to have their picture taken with the legends.

Harry said: “I had the chance to sign for Celtic in 1964, which was the year before Jock Stein became manager, but it fell through and I signed for Sunderland.

“Signing in 1969, most of the Lions were still at Celtic and it was a privilege to take the field with the men who had done so much for the club.

“For Celtic supporters, this lunch is a chance to honour these greats and pay tribute to their extraordinary achievement.”

Celtic won the European Cup in 1967 and proceeds from the Lisbon Lions Lunch are going to Alzheimer Scotland and the Beatson Cancer Charity.

And while Harry made his name battling it out on the football field, he faced his toughest fight when he was diagnosed with cancer.

He was diagnosed with bowel cancer three years ago and thanks to the support he received from The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre, he is now cancer free and helping the charity through the business he founded after he retired from football.

His family-owned Lisini Pub Company is keen to support Beatson Cancer Charity as much as possible and has already raised over £22,000 of its £50,000 target from a range of fundraising events, initiatives and community days.

Tickets for the lunch are £67 per head (tables of up to 10) and to book, call 01698 862862 or email dalziel@lisini. co.uk.
