Have a peek at geek event this weekend

- Staff reporter

If you’ve been amazed that the new Avengers movie is being filmed in Scotland, then wait till you see what’s in store this Sunday at Hamilton Park racecourse.

Superhero fans can get some tips about how to create their own costumes when the Geek Out event comes to town.

The day-long event will focus on the cosplay community, which sees people create their own outfits and accessories based on their favourite characters from film, TV and comics.

And an actual Jedi master will also be on hand – as Andrew Lawden doubled for Liam Neeson in Star Wars film The Phantom Menace and will be teaching fans young and old about how to fight with a lightsaber.

There will also be workshops and panels about the cosplay scene, which has been growing across Scotland in recent years due to the success of various superhero movies like The Avengers and The X-men. Some internationallyrenowned cosplayers will also be on hand at the event to show off their creations.

A spokesperson for Geek Out said: “To add to this, there will be a bustling trade hall where vendors, artists and makers will be showcasing and selling their own products – with everything from collectable toys to custom clothing and limited edition drawings.

“You can also get to meet and talk to comic book artists including Thomas Foster, artist of Judge Dredd in the current 2000AD comics, and much more.”

There will be competitions and giveaways throughout the day with a cosplay costume competition to finish things off, and a range of prizes for the best on show.

Children get in for free at the show and adults have to pay £5 this Sunday, April 30.
