The hope of Easter message

- By Reverend Donald Lawrie

Easter has come and gone but what an amazing time it has been for all who participated in the Holy Week services of Hamilton Churches working together; celebrating the highs and lows of the most significant week in the Christian calendar.

Due to the inspiration of a talented husband and wife team in Mrs Elizabeth and the Rev Ross Blackman a Holy week passion play created quite a buzz around town.

Already well documented, one of the highlights was not only the play itself but the coming together of people from both within the church community and some who would not see themselves ordinarily part of that scene, all have been and are welcome.

Like on that very first Easter, the celebration activity and buzz have all settled down and it is back to the old routine.

Some may be walking with their heads cast down unable to make sense of all that has gone by.

Some wondering if any of it is true, as they talk of what has just taken place. I wonder if there is a longing for more?

Two early disciples walked the road to Emmaus just as bewildered as many today but on that road something lingered, something stirred and a realisation dawned; it is true!

A rumour can be heard, chocolate eggs and Easter bunnies come and go but, the hope of the Easter message persists.

I hope by next Easter so many more will understand darkness, violence and death do not have the final say.
