United promotion hopes are kept alive

-

Lanark United kept alive their promotion hopes from the Central Second Division by beating Ashfield 2-1 on Saturday, securing third place.

Ashfield led 1-0 at halftime, but Lanark improved after the break and Paul Burns equalised from the spot after Stuart Annetts was fouled, and Kieran Mcgurk scored with a spectacular effort two minutes from time.

Carluke Rovers romped home 6-3 winners at home to East Kilbride Thistle on Saturday with an Ian Watt hattrick added to by a Greg Fernie double and a debut strike by Callum Neill.

On Monday they beat Royal Albert 3-1, with goals by Fernie, Watt and Steve Murray.

In the Super First Division Blantyre Vics beat Shettleston 2-1, with a double by Gary Griffin.

Shotts lost 1-0 at home to Maryhill in midweek, then beat Irvine Meadow 2-0 on Saturday, with Ryan Kennedy and Paul Coyle scoring, when they fielded former Scottish Schoolboys’ cap Kyle Bannerman, on loan from Stirling Albion.

A Danny Burns hat-trick saw them beat Blantyre Vics 3-2 on Monday to edge clear of the relegation pack. It puts Vics in trouble, despite goals from Sam Mckenzie and Jack Marriott.
