Jags win puts them back on title trail

Larkhallthistle look good for promotion at least

-

Larkhall Thistle moved up to joint top spot in the Central First Division with Cambuslang Rangers, following Monday’s 2-1 win at Vale of Clyde.

Jags bounced back from losing 3-2 to Wishaw at the weekend after a 4-1 win at home to Forth the previous Wednesday.

That leaves them level on points with Rangers, and although the leaders have a much better goaldifference, Jags have a game in hand.

Boss Duncan Sinclair said: “We have a chance for promotion but I want to win the league.

“Saturday’s result was a learning curve for us again, but we have character, determination and good players.

“We have four games to go and we can win the league.”

Davie Reid bagged both of Larkhall’s goals in the 2-1 win on Monday evening.

Thistle’s goals against Forth last Thursday came from a Graham Gracie double and singles from Brian Jack and Mark Mckeever.

Wishaw raced into a 3-1 interval lead over Larkhall on Saturday, with Dean Kindlan scoring either side of a Dan Kindlan double, with Graham Gracie having pulled a goal back in 40 minutes.

Mark Canning pulled another goal back with a header 15 minutes from the end.

Wishaw boss Chris Mcgroarty said: “I thought 3-1 was probably a fair reflection on the first half – 3-2 makes it look as though we were hanging on at the end.

“I thought the ball hit a we bauble to give them a goal – a minute before that we should have gone 4-1 up, but were denied by a great save. Up until then we looked comfortable.

“We’re probably out of the promotion race now, but we’re going to try and finish as high as we can, and I hope we can get into the top four.”

Wishaw added three points to that target on Monday night as they beat Forth Wanderers 4-2.

Wanderers opened the scoring through Willie Mclaren, James Coffey equalised for Wishaw only for Barry Mcgeechan to put Forth ahead again.

However, Ryan Smillie equalised with a penalty, and goals from Ryan Farrell and Dan Mcnulty stretched their lead to 4-2.

Wishaw are currently fifth, but are level on points with Rossvale, and with a game in hand.
