Glassford SWI On April 13 the Rural held an interestin­g craft night. Vicepresid­ent Sheila Moore welcomed members and guest speaker Margaret Hamilton, who displayed some of her own lovely examples of needlework and card making. Some of the ladies tried cutting out interestin­g shapes to enhance their cards The vote of thanks was given by Marion Russell. Competitio­n wintea ners: Hand-made pin cushion – 1st, Irene French; 2nd, Sheila Moore; 3rd, Marion Armour. Favourite sewing aid – 1st, Francis Smith; 2nd, Irene French; 3rd, Alison Brisbane. A lovely supper and the raffle finished the evening. On May 11 the club will hold its AGM and the flower show competitio­ns will be held and trophies handed out. The baking competitio­n will be plate apple tart (shortcrust). The knitting competitio­n will be the lady’s summer top (four ply). The senior competitio­n is any article of craft, chutney and handicraft­s shopping bag (any medium). Honorary President’s Trophy competitio­n is the lemon drizzle Loaf. Supper and raffle to follow. New members are welcome.
