A dozen dead foxes have been dumped at the side of the road in High Blantyre.

The grim discovery was made by a passer-by who was out walking near to the Stoneymeadow Road area at the junction of Dalton last week.

It is believed that a month ago, six foxes were at the spot but a further six had been added.

John Smith, of Blantyre, who made the discovery and took the photograph, said: “I had heard a few weeks back that the foxes had been put there from a friend who was out jogging in the area.

“When I was out walking just this week I noticed more foxes at the same spot. I didn’t want to get too close, but you could see them just at the woods from the side of the road.

“I was shocked to see them and it was really horrible. It is very worrying.”

The deaths of the foxes have angered residents living nearby, who have been speculating on why this has happened.

It is believed the animals have since been removed from the area.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Our wildlife crime liaison officer will be investigating the matter further and would appeal to anyone who has any further information on this incident to contact Police 101.”

The Scottish SPCA said that the matter had not been reported to them.
