‘Blue Meanie’ issued the fine in error
A‘blue meanie’slapped a parking ticket on an unmarked cop car – despite it being parked outside Hamilton Police Station in a designated bay.
The vehicle was parked on Campbell Lane last Wednesday and officers had left Police Scotland details sitting out on the dashboard.
South Lanarkshire Council have now admitted the ticket was an “error” but onlookers were baffled by the whole incident.
One passer-by who witnessed the incident said: “I was unloading stock from my car into the back door of my shop and I noticed the warden coming.
“I stood to watch because the warden would ticket me for being there, even though it’s the back access to the shop.
“Then I realised the warden had stopped at the car.
“I had just watched the police get out of it and there the warden was putting a ticket on the car.
“I shouted over and asked her if she realised she was giving a police car a ticket and she said she didn’t care and that it shouldn’t be there.
“I then asked why it shouldn’t be there, if it’s a police bay, and she just said ‘Look, I don’t care. It shouldn’t be there.’
“It’s no wonder people don’t want to visit Hamilton anymore.
“I think it is bad that I get a ticket when unloading my car at the back door of my shop – but the fact that she gave the police a ticket for parking in a police bay is actually unbelievable.”
Gordon Mackay, head of Roads and Transportation at South Lanarkshire Council, said: “This ticket was issued in error and, under the normal procedure in such circumstances, it has been cancelled.”
