Praise for school
Proud staff and pupils from Woodside Primary received a glowing Education Scotland report which highlighted the “positive impact” that partnerships are having on the children.
The report – compiled by a team of inspectors who visited the Hamilton school over two days in March – commended the head teacher’s leadership skills and complimented the “polite pupils” for playing a role in improving the school.
And the report concluded with HM Inspector, Moira Cummings, saying: “We are confident that the school has the capacity to continue to improve and so we will make no more visits in connection with this inspection.
“South Lanarkshire Council will inform parents/carers about the school’s progress as part of its arrangements for reporting on the quality of its schools.”
The key strengths of the school were:
• Polite pupils who enjoy taking on lead roles and whose views and opinions influence school improvement. • Children’s progress in reading. • Partnerships, including with parents, which are having a positive impact on children’s learning.
• Ways in which staff work together to support school improvement and the numerous lead roles they have through distributed leadership.
• The head teacher’s leadership of change, which is very well supported by the senior leadership team.
The following areas for improvement were agreed with the head teacher and a representative from South Lanarkshire Council:
• The school should now take forward its plans to continue to improve children’s progress in numeracy and writing, ensuring that children can apply their skills and knowledge across different aspects of their learning.
• The school should now continue to develop its approaches in using data to support moderation and tracking of attainment and achievement to help ensure that all children make suitable progress.
