Help for Burns competitions
The Lanarkshire Association of Burns’ Clubs picked up a donation that will help promote the work of the bard among school children.
A donation of £700 was made by Ravenscraig Burns Club following a full house at this year’s Burns Supper.
And the presentation took place on Saturday at the Robert Burns World Federation National Primary Schools Festival in St Athanasius Primary School, Carluke.
Kay Blair, president of the Lanarkshire Association of Burns’ Clubs, said: “i’m absolutely delighted. Without this generous funding, we wouldn’t be able to run the annual competitions which continue to attract a very good response.
“I’m really pleased with the way work that goes on in Lanarkshire, and the continued support from Ravenscraig Burns Club.”
The cash will be used by the Lanarkshire association and the Robert Burns World Federation to help them stage various competitions for school pupils. Both groups picked up cheques for £700.
Terry Currie, chairman of the Ravenscraig club, said: “it was a very pleasing outcome, for members and club backers alike, which will benefit children in our area to understand and learn about Burns by taking part in various competitions.”
