Degree of difficulty

Students’harsh lesson

- Mark Gillespie

Hamilton Accies Women have been left second-bottom of the Scottish Women’s Premier League 1 table following a 1-0 defeat at Stirling University on Sunday.

Jade Gallon’s goal on the half-hour mark was enough to win the game for the home side, leaving Accies with just three points from seven games.

After last week’s moralesapping loss to Rangers coach Bobby Watson was at least encouraged by the girls’ battling qualities against Stirling, although there were few chances created by either side.

He said: “We had a bad 15 minutes in the run-up to half-time last week and it was the same on Sunday.

“I was pleased, though, that we stuck together after the goal and got through that difficult spell.

“Over the piece I thought we were the better side, always on the front foot.

“It’s just that last piece of quality we’re missing in the final third.

“Stirling were very direct and it was difficult to get the ball down on the pitch and move it.

“We tried to play switches and get in behind them but the final ball wasn’t there.

“I’m a bit disappointed in our set-pieces as well, which we had been working on through the week.

“We could have been level in the second half with a bit of luck, as Gill Inglis struck the woodwork.

“Their goal came from the one moment of quality in the game and to be fair it was a great goal.”

Stirling scored when Gallon raced through the Accies defence, played a one-two with Nicole Pullar and swept a shot past Elaine Fleming.

Accies were due to visit Glasgow City at Airdrie last night (Wednesday).
