Rebecca to help on project with David Eustace
A delighted Larkhall student says that she has been given the chance of a lifetime to work alongside renowned Scottish photographer David Eustace.
Rebecca Macphail, an HND student at City of Glasgow College, is one of four students helping David document memories from his old primary school which is scheduled for demolition and rebuild.
The 21-year-old who attended Uddingston Grammar is photographing Carntyne Primary School in Glasgow before, during and after it is demolished, creating a visual memory of the building for its past and present pupils and staff, as well as the local community.
Being part of the project was the chance of a lifetime for Rebecca, who said: “It’s such an amazing opportunity to be given access to document such a historical and beautiful building in its last stages of life, but also getting to work with those who are surrounded by it every day. On top of that, working with David Eustace and hearing about his time at the school is pretty cool and it’s going to be really interesting to see what the final project will look like.”
David Eustace is a renowned Scottish photographer who has worked with stars such as Dame Judi Dench, Sir Paul Mccartney, Sting, Sophia Lauren and Ewan Mcgregor.
He will liaise closely with the students on the project, looking for their ideas and inspiration, as they help the teachers and pupils record their experiences and recollections of the school.
David said: “Education is of such value and every child’s right and our early school days help shape who we are.
“These formed memories live with us long after we leave.
“I’m delighted to help in any way I can and grateful to the students from City of Glasgow College for their support, and equally hope they learn as they contribute.”
John Carberry, who is a senior lecturer in photography at City of Glasgow College, and Rebecca’s tutor, said: “David Eustace is a great supporter of our photography department having been in the college many times advice.
“This project is a fantastic chance for these students to work with one of the UK’S most eminent photographers.
“The experience they will gain operating at this level will be invaluable and is one of many opportunities we are able to offer our students thanks to close working relationships we have developed within the industry.” to give talks and offer
