PTA group host 80s quiz and disco

-

Stonehouse Primary School’s PTA took a step back in time with their third annual ladies night, by hosting an 80s themed quiz and disco.

The ladies packed out the Lodge Union 244 for the quiz, with the teachers proving hard to beat, before dancing the night away in their neon heels!

The event also benefitted from a free buffet, courtesy of Tandoori Nights, and was supported by a range of other local businesses.

PTA vice chairperson Gillian Sage said: “we are overwhelmed again this year with the response to our request for support from the local community, Tandoori nights have provided us once again with a fantastic buffet free of charge. All the ladies at our event thoroughly enjoyed the food provided.

“Other local businesses including Strathaven taxis, Queen St Autos, Stonehouse Tyre and Exhaust Centre, The Violet Café, The Co-op, The Picture Framer (ML), Boots, Split Enz, Smile Scene, Andy’s barbers and Tony’s chippy have donated fantastic raffle prizes.

“A special mention must go also to local mum Marion Lithgow who, despite it being days until her wedding, has found the time to gift us an amazing afternoon tea at the Blythswood Hotel in Glasgow.

“We managed to sell lots of raffle tickets, play really silly games and raise nearly £1000 for the school.“

She added: “when I joined the PTA I was surprised that the PTA fundraises to purchase items that I would have expected to be essential for school; however the funds we raised at ladies’ night pays for the licence for Education City for all children to use in school and separately access at home.

“This resource is invaluable to assist children in reading, maths and languages. We are pleased to assist the school with fundraising for this.”

She added: “additionally I would like to thank Lynn Oattes our retiring chairperson and Gilly Mcauley for their hard work over the last seven years, making the PTA a vibrant committee that works hard for the children of the school.”

Owner of Tandoori Nights Aby Ali said: “we are delighted to support this community event, when my staff and I arrived with the food the party was in full swing – we only wish we had been able to stay!”
