Council have now assessed all 21 of their tower blocks

South Lanarkshir­e Council have reassured residents living in their tower blocks following the tragic fire at Grenfell Tower in London.

An“urgent assessment”of the local authority’s 21 high-rise housing blocks has been carried out.

And the council confirmed that none of the buildings have been over-clad with the same specificat­ion of materials as those used at Grenfell Tower.

A council statement also said:“as a further precaution the council is reviewing arrangemen­ts for each block in conjunctio­n with colleagues in the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to determine if any action is needed to improve fire safety. If any improvemen­t works are necessary details will be discussed with the tenants and residents of each block.”

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service are also making officers available to undertake Home Fire Safety visits, in order to provide further reassuranc­e and advice.
