Roadclosure for resurfacing

-

Major road works to improve the surface of Hamilton’s Wellhall Road will be carried out this weekend.

South Lanarkshire Council will carry out the resurfacing and to reduce disruption to road-users and businesses, the improvement work will be restricted to Saturday and Sunday, June 24 and 25.

The project will be carried out on a phased basis and it will be necessary to close Wellhall Road from Aqua Avenue to Davington Drive on June 24 and 25.

There will be no access through the road closures, but the council will ensure that access to properties is maintained, although delays should be expected.

The signed diversion route, which is suitable for all traffic for Wellhall Road, will be via Earnock Road, Newhousemill Road, Muttonhole Road, A723 Strathaven Road, B755 Millroad, B755 Chantinghall Road and Wellhall Road.

The council’s head of roads and transportation, Gordon Mackay, apologised to residents for any inconvenience they may experience.

He said: “While we will make every effort to accommodate local businesses and residents, some disruption will be inevitable and we would be grateful for the cooperation of anyone affected during these times.

“We would request that all road-users allow additional time for journeys that involve the use of this particular section of Wellhall Road during the times indicated and that they plan their routes accordingly.

“We apologise for any inconvenience that may occur during these essential road improvement works.”
