Ambassadors for protecting wildlife
Children from Chatelherault Primary School have become Animal Ambassadors – in a bid to inspire others to protect local wildlife.
The youngsters have been taking part in the Animal Ambassadors initiative which is part of a partnership outreach programme from the charities Scottish Wildlife Trust and Scottish Badgers.
Over the past few months, the charities have worked with 1000 school children across South Lanarkshire through their Mammal Detectives Roadshows.
And as part of this initiative, Animal Ambassadors have been selected from each school to receive long-term support from the two charities as they move up through primary school.
Veronica Walker, principal teacher at the school, explained: “The job of the Animal Ambassador is to speak up for Scottish wildlife and to inspire others to get involved in protecting wildlife.
“Animal Ambassadors will also be delivering assembly talks and coordinating action within their school to protect wildlife.
“Scottish Wildlife Trust and Scottish Badgers will be helping them do this and they will also be adding in lots of great perks such as badger watching opportunities, trail camera expeditions and learning tracking skills.”
