Racecourse’s mural is unveiled

-

Art student Hollie Jamieson was first past the post in a competition to design a mural for the grandstand at Hamilton Park Racecourse.

The 18-year-old visited the venue last week to officially unveil her winning design.

Students from New College Lanarkshire’s HNC art and design course were invited to submit proposals for a piece of art in the grandstand tunnel.

Hollie’s winning mural – which features in the tunnel connecting the lawns and park area to the trackside of the course – draws on a number of elements of the racecourse experience, including the glitz and glamour of Ladies’night, the elegance of Hamilton Park’s wedding packages, the unique buttonhook layout of the course and the drama of racing.

Viewing the installation for the first time Hollie, of Airdrie, said:“it was really surreal seeing my artwork actually on the wall, it was so big. I couldn’t be happier having my name next to it.

“I thoroughly enjoyed the project and I am delighted with the finished piece.”

Racecourse chief executive Vivien Currie said: “We loved the drama and detail of Hollie’s design and how it incorporated multiple elements It draws your eye in, we found ourselves seeing something new each time we looked at it.”
