Pupils tackle violence prevention course
A group of Hamilton Grammar’s S6 pupils had a very productive day at the town’s Universal Connections youth centre recently.
All 40 young people completed their Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) training and were issued with their MVP badge in recognition.
The aim of MVP is to raise awareness, challenge attitudes, open dialogue, inspire leadership and empower others.
These senior pupils will now lead lessons with younger pupils and raise awareness of a number of challenging and relevant issues in the school such as dating abuse, harassment, bullying, social media, control, alcohol and consent.
Further training and delivery of lessons to younger pupils will take place during other lessons next session.
A school spokesperson said:“the trainers were really impressed by the pupils’respect for each other and enthusiasm throughout the day.
“It was evident that there were definitely a few pupils who were‘teachers in the making’ too as they were praising each other’s responses and encouraging those who were less vocal to speak up.
“A massive thank you to our trainers Miss Callow, Mrs Buchanan, Mr Dyett, Mrs Brown, Mr Casey and Alison Thompson for all their hard work.
“It was greatly appreciated by the school and the pupils.”
