Golfer aims to complete 10 rounds in just one day
A Strathaven golfer has got fundraising down to a tee as he attempts to complete 10 rounds in just one day at Strathaven Golf Club.
Scott Hamilton (30) hopes to raise £10,000 for the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow.
He initially started fundraising for the charity in 2007 after a close friend at the club had two children treated at Yorkhill, but this will be his toughest challenge yet.
The former professional at the Avondale club previously attempted the challenge in 2011 but a torn ACL meant he could not complete his 10th round.
He admits that has played on his mind since then – and to mark his 30th birthday he will now take on the challenge once again.
“I’ve played at Strathaven Golf Club since I was 11 and I was a member of the professional staff for five years,” he said.
“Throughout that time I’ve made lifelong friends from both playing and working in the sport and I’m really pleased a number of them will join me for a couple of rounds each during the challenge including four PGA professional golfers and a former Ladies European Tour professional.
“I’m hoping their fresh legs and motivation will help keep me going during the hard times of the 18-hour ordeal. There’s no denying it’s going to be tough.
“I’m six years older than I was when I took this on the first time – so it will be a lot harder.
“But the hospital’s children and young people have far longer and harder battles to face.”
Scott admits that he is nervous of the challenge ahead of him but decided he wanted to mark his birthday with a fundraiser.
“I am looking forward to it,” he added. “But I know how big a task I have ahead of me.
“I tried it once and couldn’t do it.
“That means I know how difficult the day will be but also that makes me even more determined.
“It’s for such a good cause and that’s what really matters.”
