Shieldinch star back on home turf

Blantyre Old Parish Church summer fair takes place this Saturday.

And it will see ‘River City’ star Scott Fletcher, who plays loveable lad Angus Lindsay, at the Craigmuir Road event to crown the Gala Queen and mingle with the crowds.

Scott will officially crown Queen Anna Smit (9) of Westcraigs, Blantyre, along with her attendants Sidney Hay, Isla Mcintosh, Holly Thomson and Jessica Ross when the event opens at 2pm.

There will be a host of activities and stalls including balloons, face painting, cake and candy, a bottle stall, bouncy castle, home baking, tea room, bric-a-brac, burgers and jewellery.

Blantyre band The Naked Feedback will take to the stage and there will be entertainm­ent from the Young & Aitken Dancers.

Church spokesman Billy Gallacher said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be welcoming Scott Fletcher, a Blantyre man himself, to the church summer fair this weekend. We think he’s a huge attraction and will be a big hit with the public, in particular Blantyre’s ‘River City’ fans, who will be delighted to meet him the actor.

“A huge thank you to our usual sponsors this year once again, including Lanarkshir­e businessma­n James Mortimer, and to everyone who has helped organise the event.

“Now let’s just hope the sun shines brightly for a fabulous family day out.”

Entry is £1 and children under 12 go free. Tea, coffee and three slices of home baking is £2.
