‘Hard work pays off’ for Blantyre boys

Blantyre Soccer Academy have enjoyed a lot of recent success.

Their 2005 squad ran out Reamonn Gormley Memorial Shield winners in their first ever 11-a-side festival, and the 2004 squad also ran out winners in the Reamonn Gormley Memorial Shield whilst playing against strong 2003 teams.

The 2004s were asked if they could field a team to make up the numbers, and ended up worthy winners.

Blantyre SA’S disability black squad won the National 5s trophy, the National 7s trophy and also won the National League on points with six games left to play.

Their 2002 Black squad won the Lanarkshir­e Football Developmen­t Associatio­n league, going through the campaign without a defeat.

The 2002s also won the League Cup and got to the Scottish Cup semifinals.

Kevin O’neil said: “This has been a great season for the Academy, with all our competitiv­e teams at 11-a-side in the senior Academy either being first or second in the leagues in which they participat­e.

“It goes to show that hard work and perseveran­ce pays off.”
