It was another busy week on the Hamilton Advertiser’s social media pages.

On Facebook we posted our story about a footbridge on a popular nature trail that was torched by vandals.

This is the second time in three years that the spot in the Neilsland and Earnock glens have been targeted.

Thomas Kinsella said: “these things are built for everyone’s enjoyment, and these idiots think it’s funny to destroy it. Hope they are caught and punished for it.”

Kelly Cook added: “nightmare! A nice place to run apart from all these people wrecking it for everyone else.”

Geraldine Markle also commented: “Unbelievable, badness for the sake of badness, spoils it for everyone else.”

Carol Macrae said: “i am a member of the Neilsland and Earnock New Roots Committee. The repair will be done, yet again by the park ranger and volunteers like my husband. We are furious that yet again vandals have wreaked havoc in the park!”

James Quinn added: “this could have caused a death.”

Lisa Longmuir said: “what do they get out of it, pointless. No need whatsoever!”

Another story some of our readers commented on was about staff and volunteers at a Hamilton-based charity that supports victims of rape and sexual abuse are celebrating after receiving a lotto windfall.

Linzi Letitia Macgregor said: “brilliant news. Well done to them all.”

Zoe Lawrence Craw also felt: “that is brilliant news.”

Irene Lester also commented: “well done.”

Paul Hamill wrote: “brilliant news, they work so hard and provide excellent education in the wider community.” Denise Hay said: “fantastic.” Heather Horner also wrote: “that’s great news!”

Also on our page, tributes have poured in on our article about a Carluke woman who was tragically killed after a road crash last week.

Laura Johnstone said: “so sad when someone so good with a big heart is taken from us.”

Fiona English added: “beautiful lady inside and out, so sad to hear this terrible news. Rest peacefully.”

Caroline Watson Cullion said: “she was a true earth angel ,with a heart of gold. She done so much for others and never looked for anything in return. Soar high.”
