Hair today, gone tomorrow!
Girls donate their flowing locks.. and raise £600
Two kind-hearted Hamilton Grammar pupils are sporting new looks for the summer holidays - after chopping off their own hair for charity.
Maleeka Smyth (14) and Morven Thompson (13) opted for the drastic new styles after learning of the work of the Little Princess Trust.
The charity makes wigs for children suffering hair loss, and Maleeka and Morven were only too happy to provide their hair to the cause. The pair also raised more than £600 for the Trust after asking for sponsorship through a Justgiving page.
The charity requires donations of hair with a minimum length of seven inches. Donations are then sent to a manufacturer in China, to be converted into wigs suitable for girls and boys who need them.
Each of the specialist wigs can require several donations of hair to complete and cost between £200 and £500 to make.
Both Maleeka and Morven had more than 12 inches chopped off for the Little Princess Trust at Nicola Innes Hair and Beauty in Hamilton.
Maleeka said: “I have to admit it was a little bit scary when it came to the big day but there was no way I was going to back out and now I know my hair and the money we have raised will help make life that little bit easier for children facing a really tough time.”
Morven added: “We want to say a big thank you to everyone who contributed to our fundraising friends, family and people we don’t even know, including one lovely lady who just happened to be getting her hair done at the same time. We also want to say a really big thank you to everyone at Nicola Innes Hair and Beauty who gave their time and expertise to make sure the hair was cut to the wig maker’s requirements and that our new, short styles looked fantastic.”
Donations can still be made through www.justgiving.com/ Morven-thompson.
