Wildlife watch If you’re social media savvy and want to be cool, hang out with the badger’s sett

-

Scottish Wildlife Trust’s Falls of Clyde Wildlife Reserve Ranger Laura Preston would like to tell readers about their plans for a national badger hub.

This week I’m really excited to be able to tell you about our new Badger Hub here at the Falls of Clyde.

We are working in partnership with the charity Scottish Badgers to develop Scotland’s national badger hub, which will be based here.

The hub will be a focus for badger information, training, events and volunteering opportunities within South Lanarkshire and beyond.

So, what does that mean for you? Well, we are offering a number of volunteer opportunities which you can get involved with.

We currently have four volunteer roles available – trail camera assistant, badger surveyor, assistant badger watchers and virtual badger champion.

The trail camera assistant position will involve monitoring one of our badger setts, using a trail camera, then processing the footage to allow us to share it with visitors and on social media.

This role is based at the Falls of Clyde and would only require one day per month.

Another role based here is the assistant badger watcher; this volunteer would help the ranger deliver badger watches that we run from May to August each year.

They can sign up to as many watches as they would like, and it’s a great opportunity to be able to see badgers!

For anyone feeling more adventurous we are also looking for badger surveyors, to go out with other volunteers to survey for badger setts in the South Lanarkshire area.

As with all the positions, full training will be provided.

If you are particularly social media-savvy or a confessed Facebook addict, we would love you to be involved as a virtual badger champion.

So, if you love badgers and can use social media to help us spread awareness of this iconic species, please apply on-line. See www. scottishwildlifetrust.org.uk/ volunteer.
