A Motherwell charity which provides practical training for young adults with learning disabilities hopes to stir up some new interest in their work.

Community cafe Windmills have announced a new partnership with We Love Coffee.

The East Kilbride company have over 40 years’ experience in the world of coffee and have been sharing their passion with the Windmills staff and trainees, as well as providing barista training.

Windmills manager Joy Gillespie said: “Windmills set challenging and high standards for our trainees, and our experience shows that with good support they not only achieve but go much further than we ever imagine, taking on responsibility and moving towards independence.”

The cafe, located in Brandon Parade East, provide opportunities to people from all over Lanarkshire on an accredited training programme, allowing them to learn about hygiene, food preparation and customer service, while enhancing their levels of confidence and social skills.

Along with the new coffee, Windmills have launched their new ‘Hello Summer’ menu which includes some old favourites and a selection of gluten-free and under-400 calorie options.

Trainees are enjoying the newly-refurbished environment, updated menu and are also welcoming lots of new customers.

The cafe relies on external funding and community support to continue its charity work and the team are urging people to pop along and help them to invest in young people with learning disabilities.

Their Facebook and Twitter feeds provide up-to-date information on news of their developing service which will include group events, children’s activities and a supper club.
