Cup can give a lift
Watson wants home win
Hamilton Accies coach Bobby Watson hopes victory in their first home SWF Scottish Cup in three years can provide a boost for their league campaign.
Accies have been drawn against newcomers Granite City at the Superseal Stadium on August 20, and Watson says it’s one to look forward to, having beat Kilmarnock 4-1 in the previous round.
Progress to the last eight of the competition would be the furthest Accies have ever gone in the Scottish Cup, and that provides an extra incentive.
Watson said: “Granite City are a brand new team. They’ve only been going for a few seasons.
“I don’t know a lot about them individually, but their unbeaten record last year speaks for itself, and they’re going well again this season.
“We will be having them watched in coming weeks. There’s no way we will be underestimating them, they will fancy their chances too.
“We’ll need to be at our best and approach the game professionally.
“We have put in some good performances at home this season and we can win if we all do our jobs.
“If we get another home tie in the next round then you never know.”
Watson feels Accies’ lowly position in the league table is an unfair reflection on how they have been playing.
He said: “We deserve to be in this league, but we have to go out and prove it.
“There’s a great core dynamic in the squad, and everyone works and trains very seriously.
“We have played well in games, but not come away with anything.”
Doctor added: “We are looking to boost our options up front; it has been a lot to ask of Lori Gardner and Mhairi Lyle up front all the time.”
