Shearer joins ’Hill backroom team

Athletic add six players as squad takes shape

-

Bellshill Athletic boss Robert Sneddon is optimistic for the season ahead, after bringing in a new assistant manager to boost the backroom team.

Gary Shearer, who had spells with Blantyre Vics, East Kilbride Thistle, Lanark United and Benburb, is stepping in as assistant at Rockburn Park, to take over from Reon Juskowiak, who moved on to Arthurlie.

Sneddon said: “I have known Gary for many years as a player in the Junior ranks before rounding off his playing career with Eddlewood Amateurs.

“Gary was a good player, and I’m sure he will be a good addition to the coaching staff.

“We’re taking shape now with 17 signed players, which is a positive step after last season when I came in as manager, and started off with three signed players – that meant we had to build a squad quickly.” That instability also led to Bellshill being relegated from the Central First Division.

However, Sneddon added: “This year we have a head start, with 17 signed players, which could change between now and the start of the season.

“We have a few boys in here on trial for pre-season and some of them could be a couple of diamonds as well.”

New signings include John Reynolds (ex-clyde under-21), Stewart Davidson (Cambuslang Rangers), Robert O’donnell (Vale of Clyde), Ewan Conroy (Glencairn under-21), Connor Mcleod (Shotts) and Dillon Bradley (Thorniewood United).

Four pre-season friendlies have also been lined up, with Blantyre Vics away on Saturday, July 15(2pm), Shotts away on Saturday, July 22 (2pm), Rossvale away on Wednesday, July 26 (6.30pm) and at Downfield on Saturday, July 29, at 2.30pm.
