No show over theft

Co-accused gets bailed

- Court reporter

A Hamilton man is accused of breaching a bail condition by thieving booze from a town supermarket.

James Reid, of Glasgow Road, Burnbank, is charged with stealing alcohol from Sainsbury’s in Douglas Park Retail Park on May 26 this year while on bail on another matter.

Twenty-six-year-old Reid is also accused of failing to comply with a bail condition prohibiting him from entering Douglas Park Retail Park.

Reid further faces charges of stealing a television from Asda in Palace Grounds, while on bail on two separate matters, on June 27 this year.

When the case called at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday, Reid did not appear in court to answer the charges and Sheriff Alasdair Macfadyen granted a warrant for his arrest.

Co-accused 32-yearold Kelly Mulhearn, of Abbotsford Crescent, however pleaded guilty to a charge of breaching a curfew imposed as part of bail conditions on June 6 this year.

Mulhearn had been ordered to remain within her home between the hours of 7pm and 7am. However, last Friday she had been at Burnbank Centre during those hours and failed to answer the door of her home when required to do so by police officers. She had been on bail on separate matters at the time.

Her not guilty plea to a charge of stealing booze from Iceland in Douglas Park Retail Park on July 10 while on bail on separate matters was accepted by the Crown.

At Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday, Sheriff Alasdair Macfadyen deferred sentence on Mulhearn until August 30 for a criminal justice social work report and restriction of liberty order assessment. Bail was granted meantime.
