It’s December in Dublin

Band’ s brilliant irish experience

- Shirley Bartynek

Lanarkshire band December returned to Dublin last week the night before U2 brought their Joshua Tree 2017 tour back to Dublin’s Croke Park.

December, who count U2 as a major influence and got together after seeing the original Joshua Tree tour in 1987 in Scotland, were delighted to be given the opportunity to play the acclaimed #Welcometothenorthside events in The Church venue on Friday, July 21.

The band have followed U2 their whole lives and released ‘Alison Stewart,’ a song about U2 in November 2015 with all proceeds going to benefit Irish charity Chernobyl Children International.

The song was created after the band stepped away from their previous identity “The Janes” as their record company faced the ups and downs of trying to make it in the industry.

Now back together under their original name December they wanted to thank U2 who continued to inspire them through hard times, making them feel stronger than ever as a band now.

The band includes Ails Pattison, lead singer (Hamilton), Kenny Mcbride and Graeme Sparshott on drums, Grant Mcgregor on bass, Stephen Walker on guitar, Scott Pattison, guitarist, and Paul Ferrie on guitar and vocals.

The indy-rock band were last in Dublin in September 2016 to play the official fan-led celebrations of U2’s 40th anniversary.

Since the release of Alison Stewart December have released a number of covers of U2 songs including a radical re-interpretation of U2 fan favourite A Sort of Homecoming.

They are now set to release ‘33’ a 10song album of re-interpretations of U2 classics on September 30, 2017 at Glasgow’s Oran Mor.

Ails Pattison, lead singer with December, said: “It was a privilege to be playing these events and we were grateful for the invite.

“It was amazing and we played to over 1000 people over two nights - the experience of a lifetime!

“It was also brilliant to see U2 perform the Joshua Tree on their home turf.”
